BCIC named Government Organization of the Year by Startup Canada
May 2, 2014
BRITISH COLUMBIA – This week, Startup Canada announced the winners of the first ever Startup Canada Awards. Right across the country, individuals, organizations and institutions that are shaping Canada’s entrepreneurial ecosystem were honoured, including BCIC as Government Organization of the Year in BC. And, as we always say, we don’t do this alone – several of our partners and friends made the list!
The Startup Canada Awards celebrate and distinguish the individuals, communities and institutions in Canada that have demonstrated innovation, excellence, outstanding achievement and impact in advancing Canadian entrepreneurship.
“We are incredibly humbled by this recognition by Startup Canada,” said Shirley Vickers, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at BCIC. “And we are in good company. To see so many of our partners and collaborators recognized for their contributions in our community validates that we do indeed have the right people at the table working together, creating the environment for startups to thrive in BC.”
“The technology sector is increasingly a key driver for our economy,” said Andrew Wilkinson, Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services. “The BC Innovation Council does great work on behalf of the B.C. government to support new start-ups and entrepreneurs in the sector.”
The BC Government Organization of the Year is awarded to a municipal, provincial or federal government program, department, office, agency or entity that demonstrates both innovative approaches and the largest impact in advancing the success of entrepreneurs, startups, startup communities and entrepreneurial activities locally and nation-wide.
